Chinese Herbal Medicine For Premature Ejaculation
The majority of men suffer from a form of premature ejaculation (also sometimes called ‘prospermia’) at some point in their lives and, in many cases, it is not a lasting condition. However, it can sometimes last for some time, and when it does, it can seriously impact a man’s confidence and self-image, and put a strain on relationships.
Conventional treatment options include analgesic creams and antidepressants, but needless to say there can unwanted side-effects, including nausea, perspiration, drowsiness and decreased libido.
There are often a mixture of physical and psychological factors at play with premature ejaculation – luckily, Chinese medicine can help with both.
Chinese Medicine For Premature Ejaculation
As is normally the case with Chinese medicine, premature ejaculation can have a number of different causes, and the treatment will be different in each case. However, herbal medicine has a good track record with these kinds of issues, and would be my preferred first port of call.
Even then, there are many different herbal formulas that can be used. I have seen my teacher Dr Feng use very different herbal formulas for treating premature ejaculation with good results, by matching the formula precisely to the individual.
Quite often there is an element of Heat: The nature of Heat (Yang) is to enliven, arouse and quicken, and a certain amount is necessary to achieve an erection in the first place. But if the Yang is too strong in comparison with the Yin, it can lead to a high libido, which peaks too quickly.
The other way of looking at this is that there are normally elements of deficiency. This is the lack of grounding Yin energy that is needed to slow things down – the cooler, calmer qualities which balance the fire of the Yang.
With some people, heat will predominate, and with others, deficiency. And needless to say there may well be other factors involved. Stress, tiredness, low energy, and anxiety all play a part. The final herbal formula will be designed to address whatever is present for that person, at that exact time.
Research On Herbs For Premature Ejaculation
There hasn’t been all that much research in this field, but what there is is generally positive, and this is in keeping with my own experience of working in this area.
For example, a study by Dr Liu, published in the Shanxi Journal Of Chinese Medicine used a herbal formula for treatment of 159 men with premature ejaculation, of which 88.05% (140 cases) were cured, 17 made positive progress and only 2 (1.26%) had no result. In a similar study (by Dr Ji, in the Zhejiang Journal Of Chinese Medicine) a different herbal formula was tested on 80 men, with 36 cured cases, and 40 with good results, and only 4 with no result.
