Meditation: Emma Stone Isn’t The Only One….

Emma Stone, star of ‘The Amazing Spiderman 2’ has recently gone on record with her new-found love of meditation, saying that it helps her to deal with anxiety, and is ‘changing her life completely’.

I’m glad to see an actress in the spotlight talking about meditation, as it’s such a useful tool for reducing stress and anxiety and regulating the body and mind. And it’s actually very simple to do.

Meditation has been well researched, and has been found to ‘switch off’ the fight-or-flight response, reducing stress, anxiety and depression. It has also been shown to improve sleep, manage pain, and lower blood pressure.

In fact, there are a whole host of conditions that it can help with. By switching off stress, it has distinct and measurable effects on the body, and can benefit (among other things) angina, cough, diabetes, infertility, post-operative swelling, rheumatoid arthritis, and all kinds of pain.

The secret to meditation is…. that there’s no secret to it. There are no magical or mystical techniques. You just need something to focus on (your breathing, for instance) and a passive, non-judegmental attitude, so that whenever your mind wanders you gently and calmly return your attention to your breathing, or whatever your chosen focus is.

This simple technique, practiced regularly, has a host of profound health benefits, so can you afford NOT to try it out?
